July 23, Fineko/abc.az. An abnormal heatwave in June resulted in the loss of approximately 24 million working hours, causing $1.53 billion (£1.15 billion) in damage to the UK economy.

According to estimates by experts from the London School of Economics (LSE) and the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC), record-high temperatures in late June forced employees across the country to reduce working hours or take days off, cutting the average workweek by 0.47 hours. About 3.6% of the workforce (approximately 1.25 million people) did not attend work at all during the peak of the heatwave.

An additional 8 million working hours were lost—estimated at approximately $508 million (£380 million)—further compounding the total economic damage.
