July 21, Fineko/abc.az. A US federal judge, Araceli Martinez-Olguin, has granted final approval to a $1.5 billion settlement agreement involving AI firm Anthropic over copyright infringement allegations.
Under the terms covering 500,000 works, the company will pay $3,000 per book to authors and publishers whose copyrighted texts were utilized without permission to train its "Claude" artificial intelligence models.
Attorneys representing the plaintiffs highlighted this payout as the largest publicly disclosed copyright recovery in history, marking the first major settlement finalized in the US among ongoing lawsuits against tech giants like OpenAI, Meta, and Google.
