WCO Secretary General: Experience gained by Azerbaijani customs service is also useful for international customs community

July 13, Fineko/abc.az. The Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Ian Saunders praised the digital transformation, introduction of AI and modern technological projects in the Azerbaijani customs service.

Saunders said this at a briefing at the State Customs Committee as part of his first visit to Azerbaijan.

He added that during the visit, he was presented with digital reforms, modern management mechanisms, and innovative projects being implemented in the customs service. He also familiarized himself with the work of the Target Center and the Customs History Museum and discussed modern approaches and challenges in the customs sector with the SCC staff.

Saunders noted that cooperation between Azerbaijan and the WCO has been successfully developing for many years. He pointed out that Azerbaijan actively participates in organization's work, accredits experts involved in international support programs, and contributes to international customs cooperation.

He also stressed that Azerbaijan provides financial support to the WCO to strengthen the institutional capacity of customs administrations in other countries and shares its experience with the international customs community.
