July 9, Fineko/abc.az. The Donald Trump administration has ordered the preparation of a list of Spanish goods that could face an embargo following its announced intention to halt trade with Spain.
According to POLITICO, the list is being developed by the US Department of the Treasury, the Department of Commerce, and the Office of the United States Trade Representative. The potential restrictions were triggered by Madrid's refusal to support a NATO initiative aimed at increasing defense spending to 5% of GDP.
Experts note that such measures could jeopardize the existing trade agreement between the US and the EU. Despite the relatively small volume of bilateral trade, Washington views the potential embargo as a leverage tool to pressure Spain.
