Azerbaijan observes sharp growth on meat imports

11:09 - 7.07.2026

July 7, Fineko/abc.az. Meat imports in Azerbaijan have increased dramatically for Jan-Apr 2026.

According to the State Statistics Committee, from January to April, our country imported 4,776.4 tons of cattle meat for $18.124 million (a rise of 44.3% in value terms and 47.2% in quantity terms against Jan-Apr 2025).

Experts believe the main reason for increase in imports is the rise in meat prices in the domestic market.

As prices rise, it becomes more profitable for importers to import meat from abroad. The increase in prices is driven by both growth in demand and a drop in the number of animals in the country.

The rise in livestock production costs is also considered a main factor affecting prices. As feed, housing, and breeding costs increase, the cost of domestic production increases. This encourages imports from countries with cheaper production capabilities.
