Alphabet enters the Dow Jones, displacing Verizon

June 24, Fineko/abc.az. Alphabet Inc. will enter the Dow Jones Industrial Average, replacing Verizon Communications. The decision was made by the operator of index S&P Global and will come into force before trading begins on Monday.

ABC.AZ reports that the change reflects a structural shift in the US economy: the role of technology and AI companies continues to grow, while traditional telecoms lose relative weight. The inclusion of Alphabet, the parent company of Google, will strengthen digital sector's presence in the index and make it more actual.

Alphabet is one of the largest players in internet search, digital advertising, cloud services, and AI. The company is actively investing in AI and expanding its presence in fast-growing segments, which has been a key factor in its inclusion. Experts believe this move will enhance the representativeness of the Dow Jones and increase the share of technology companies in its composition.
