June 23, Fineko/abc.az. Retail conglomerate Walmart Inc. has signed its first-ever long-term nuclear Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), securing emissions-free baseline electricity to power its supply chain infrastructure.
According to ABC.AZ, the corporate agreement structured with Constellation Energy covers approximately 176 megawatts (MW) of wholesale electricity supply. Walmart will procure the clean energy attributes over two distinct 15-year contractual terms commencing in 2029 and 2030. The power will be sourced from Constellation’s Dresden Clean Energy Center in Illinois, where planned efficiency uprates will expand existing generation capacity by 30 MW without the requirement for new facility assembly. This targeted zero-carbon output is designated to fuel Walmart's high-tech perishable distribution hub currently under development in Belvidere, Illinois. The deal signals growing corporate interest in nuclear solutions and marks one of the first major structural PPA frameworks executed between a massive retail operator and a US nuclear station.
