June 23, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijani Railways (ADY) has signed a contract for the purchase of four new mainline passenger locomotives with Chinese company CRRC Ziyang.
ABC.AZ reports that the document was signed by ADY chairman Rovshan Rustamov and CRRC Ziyang Co. Ltd head Chen Zhixin as part of the visit of the ADY delegation to China.
The delivery of new locomotives to Azerbaijan is expected to take place during 2027.
Passenger locomotives will further enhance the quality of service and passenger satisfaction, especially for long-distance transportation.
The parties discussed the modernization of the ADY locomotive fleet, improving the technical capabilities of rolling stock, and developing safe transportation in the context of increasing cargo traffic along international corridors, as well as expanding cooperation. In September, Azerbaijan plans to receive seven new freight locomotives under a contract with CRRC Ziyang.
