Azerbaijan’s car imports decreased almost by 40% in 5 months

June 22, Fineko/abc.az. The number of automobiles imported into the country has declined by roughly 40% for the past 5 months.

ABC.AZ informs that according to economist Khalid Karimli, if car imports in Azerbaijan reached 39,000 vehicles for Jan-May 2025, this figure was 24,000 cars for Jan-May 2026.

This means a significant reduction in car imports.

The expert explains the main cause of decline with the rapid purchases observed on the market since the 2nd half of last year, since both citizens and sellers knew that the 18% VAT discount applied to electric and hybrid cars would be abolished from January 1, 2026.

For this reason, car imports grew more than 30% in 2025 against the previous year.
