June 21, Fineko/abc.az. US President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform that no maritime transit fees will be permitted in the strategic Strait of Hormuz during the 60-day interim ceasefire framework.
According to ABC.AZ, the statement clarifies the dynamic regarding potential shipping levies in the key global energy artery. Trump confirmed that vessels will navigate toll-free through the waterway for the duration of the 60-day US-Iran negotiation window.
However, the US President warned that if a comprehensive diplomatic deal with Iran is not finalized by the end of this period, Washington might step in to impose its own transit fees. Trump framed these potential costs as a reimbursement for America's financial outlays while acting as a "Guardian Angel" protecting Middle Eastern nations. Currently, the bottleneck channel accounts for roughly 20% of global petroleum flows and 25% of liquefied natural gas (LNG) maritime trade.
