June 1, Fineko/abc.az. On June 2, an event dedicated to the commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line, one of the region's crucial freight routes, will be held at the Akhalkalaki railway and logistics complex in Georgia following its modernization.
ABC.AZ reports, citing Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), that officials from Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye, alongside heads of railway and port administrations, will attend the event.
As a reminder, on May 18, a protocol confirming the completion and final acceptance of the modernization works under the project was signed in Baku with the participation of the leadership of both countries.
Key works completed within the project:
A 184-kilometer section of the BTK passing through Georgia, a vital segment of the Middle Corridor, has been modernized.
The 5-stage project covered 13 stations, 55 bridges, 8 traction substations, and 320 buildings.
A new 30.3 km railway line and a wheelset-changing station were constructed, while 153.1 km of existing tracks underwent rehabilitation and reconstruction.
As a result of the works, the annual cargo capacity of the BTK has been increased from 1 million tons to 5 million tons. This line has now become one of the most functional overland routes connecting China and Central Asia to Europe.
