Last year, 9.09 million tons of cargo transported by sea — Report

May 12, Fineko/abc.az. In 2025, 9.09 million tons of cargo were transported by sea (5.4% more than in 2024). Cargo transportation via external links grew by 3%, reaching 8.82 million tons.

ABC.AZ reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee that export cargo transportation totaled 313,400 tons (2.3-fold more than a year earlier).

Imported cargoes increased by 22.4% up to 140,500 tons. Foreign interport shipments grew 2.1-fold, reaching 1.60 million tons, and coastal shipments - 4.6-fold up to 266,200 tons. At the same time, the transit cargo declined by 10.3%, to 6.77 million tons.

Oil and petroleum products accounted for 4.31 million tons of transported cargo (a rise of 2.3% in this segment). The volume of other cargoes increased by 8.4%, reaching 4.78 million tons.

Cargo turnover in maritime transport increased sharply and totaled 15.729 billion ton-km. This indicator grew 2.3-fold compared with 2024. Cargo turnover between external ports grew 3.4-fold up to 12.6 billion ton-km.

Revenue from cargo transportation has also increased. Thus, in 2025, 259.23 million manats were earned from cargo transportation by sea (8.4% more than a year earlier). Revenues from external relations totaled 249.64 million manats (a rise of 4.8%). And earnings from coastal transportation grew 12.7-foldtimes, up to 9.59 million manats.

At the same time, a decrease was recorded in passenger traffic. Last year, 25,500 passengers were transported by sea (10.2% less than a year earlier). Passenger turnover reached 11.4 million passengers-km (a drop of 12.3%). Revenue from passenger transportation fell by 265,000 manats (a drop of 75.6%).

The loading and unloading operations in seaports amounted to 12.96 million tons (7.8% less than a year ago). Loading and unloading operations for transit cargo decreased by 9.4% to 10.25 million tons.

And the number of processed vessels in the ports increased to 6,017 (24.6% more than a year earlier).
