May 5, Fineko/abc.az. For the first time since Brexit, the EU intends to seek annual financial contributions from the UK for access to the single market.
ABC.AZ reports that according to The Times, Brussels expects to receive agreement in principle from Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the EU summit.
A mechanism is proposed in which London's contribution will depend on the EU market share in which the country wants to participate. The priority is given to the chemical, pharmaceutical and automotive industries.
The EU stresses that it will not allow the UK to choose only favorable terms and insists on a model similar to the Swiss one with regular contributions to the union budget.
The UK left the EU on January 31, 2020 after the 2016 referendum and concluded a free trade agreement without duties and quotas.
