April 24, Fineko/abc.az. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has proposed to the European Union to impose an emergency tax on large energy companies because of rising energy prices.
ABC.AZ reports that according to the PM, the rising tensions in the Middle East have led to economic consequences that are already being felt by households and businesses in Europe. At the same time, some companies receive additional benefits from high oil prices, so the new tax may become a source of financing for measures to support citizens and the economy.
Amid the situation in the Middle East and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, fuel prices in Europe have risen sharply. The IMF also warns about the risk of a large-scale energy crisis.
