April 3, Fineko/abc.az. More than 40 U.S. allies held a virtual meeting to discuss a plan to resume navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, including a scenario in case the problem had to be resolved without the participation of the U.S., ABC.AZ informs, referring to Bloomberg news agency’s sources.
The meeting, according to the agency, took place on April 2 at the initiative of the UK.
The discussion was attended by the states of Europe, the Middle East and Asia, as well as Australia and Canada. Some countries, according to Bloomberg's interlocutors, advocate that the decision on the Strait of Hormuz be fixed in possible negotiations on a cease-fire between the United States and Iran. Possible economic measures, including sanctions against Tehran, and options for involving the United Nations in diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict were also considered.
