December 18, Fineko/abc.az. The annual container transshipment rate at the Baku International Seaport has reached 100,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) for the first time.
ABC.AZ reports that this was announced during a media tour organized on the territory of the port.
Integration of seaports and railway operations made it possible to speed up loading and unloading processes and optimize logistics routes. The operation of a Single Transfer Center in the Baku port in September of this year, where a number of organizations and forwarding companies work together, also contributes to more flexible operations at the port and the steady growth of cargo transportation. As a result of the work done, a record figure of cargo transportation of the port was achieved.
The Baku port occupies a special strategic position on the trade and logistics map of the region and as one of the main hubs of the Mediterranean Corridor (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route). In the era of restructuring global supply chains, the Median Corridor has become increasingly important as the safest, most convenient, flexible and shortest transit route from Asia to Europe and back. Due to its infrastructural capabilities, technical indicators and experienced specialists, the Baku Port makes a great contribution to the development of logistics in the region, being the first port in the region to receive the EcoPort certificate, organizes operations in accordance with international environmental requirements and ensures the stability of transportation along the Middle Corridor.
The growth dynamics of container traffic makes this achievement even more significant. If 40,395 TEU containers were transported through the Baku port in 2020, then in 2024 - 76,775 TEU containers, which, in turn, means an increase of 90% or 1.9 times. However, this year, exceeding the annual limit of 100,000 TEU shows the effectiveness of the port's container operations and gives rise to higher forecasts for the next year.
