December 3, Fineko/abc.az. Japan's Mitsubishi Electric plans to triple the production of optical semiconductors for AI data centers by fiscal year 2028, while reducing investment in electric vehicle components due to slowdown in this market.
AZ reports that optical semiconductors convert light into electrical signals and are used to connect graphics processors in data centers, 5G base stations, and home Internet devices, providing data transfer speeds of up to 200 Gbit/s with growth potential of up to 800 Gbit/s.
It is estimated that three Japanese companies - Mitsubishi Electric, Lumentum Japan and Sumitomo Electric - account for close to 70% of the global optical device market.
