Russia introduces verification for foreign SIM-cards with 24-hour Internet blocking

November 28, Fineko/abc.az. Russian telecom operators have launched a verification mechanism for foreign SIM cards, ABC.AZ informs, referring to the Ministry of Finance. Upon entry into the Russian Federation, access to the mobile Internet and SMS is automatically blocked for 24 hours.

When registering a foreign SIM card in the network of a Russian operator, the user's phone will receive an SMS with a link for authorization using captcha verification. The Ministry explained that after successful authorization, the Internet will start working within a few minutes.

Earlier, a similar mechanism was launched to remove the "cooling off" period from the SIM cards of subscribers arriving in the Russian Federation again.
