October 30, Fineko/abc.az. Popular messenger WhatsApp, owned by Meta Corporation, may lose the legal protection of its trademarks in Russia as early as December 2025.

ABC.AZ reports that it is linked with expiration of national registrations.

The rights to the trademarks of WhatsApp messenger in Russia belong to VotsApp LLP. Their renewal period expires at the end of the year, otherwise the brands will lose their legal protection.

According to Alina Akinshina, CEO at Online Patent, in case of delay, a 6-month grace period with increased fee is provided. If extension does not take place within this period, the trademark rights will be lost.
