October 20, Fineko/abc.az. The European Parliament has banned the use of 29 words like "burger", "sausage", and "steak" to name products made from plant-based meat analogues. Now these words can only appear on the labels of products made from animals or animals in the case of the word "egg".
ABC.AZ informs that the decision was preceded by a heated debate. As a result, the law was passed by 355 votes to 247. Perhaps the support of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz played a role, saying: "A sausage is a sausage. It doesn't happen to be vegan."
Now a campaign is underway to repeal the law. There are chances: after all, in order to enter into force, the bill must be approved by the European Commission and the EU countries.
