Import of black tea in Azerbaijan observes growth for first 7 months

October 3, Fineko/abc.az. Over Jan-Jul 2025, the import of black tea in Azerbaijan declined by 7.5% versus the 2024 same term.

ABC.AZ reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee that overall imports fell from 6,766.69 tons in 2024 to 6,260.04 tons in 2025. In terms of value, imports grew by 14.1% from $33.53 million up to $38.26 million.

In 2024, the average price of black tea was close to $4,956 per ton, and in 2025 this figure rose up to $6,112, a 23.3% price rise.

When compared by country, tea imports from India increased from 1 088.71 tons up to 1 100.11 tons, that is, by 1.1%. Its value grew from $3.4 million up to $4.7 million, a rise of 16.7%. Imports from Iran dropped from 61.63 to 56.36 tons (-8.5%), and the cost fell from $298,370 to $248,360 (-16.8%). Imports from Kenya increased from 232.96 tons to 240.68 tons, a rise of 3.3%, while the value from $718,890 up to $1.57 million, a rise of 47.1%.

Tea imports from Sri Lanka, which has the largest share of imports, declined from 5,337.86 tons to 4,819.85 tons (-9.7%), but grew by 13.3%, increasing in value from $28.97 million to $32.83 million. Tea imports from Vietnam observed a drop from 45.51 to 42.23 tons (-7.2%), and the cost increased from $105,820 up to $110,280 (+4.2%).
