October 1, Fineko/abc.az. Large-scale measures will be taken in Azerbaijan to reduce water losses, build new reservoirs, and reuse water.
ABC.AZ informs that Zaur Mikayilov, chairman of the State Agency for Water Resources of Azerbaijan, stated about this during his speech at the Baku Climate Action Week.
Mikayilov added that major programs will be implemented in the coming years to reduce losses in drinking water and irrigation networks: "Pilot initiatives will be implemented to design new reservoirs, reuse and desalination of water. These measures can become a model not only for Azerbaijan, but also for the region as a whole."
Agency’s head pointed out that all these projects are based on a single principle: "Water policy is climate policy. If we adhere to discipline and requirements, Azerbaijan can become a regional model in the field of water sustainability – a model in which people drink safe water, practice effective irrigation, clean rivers flow, and the economy develops within the limits of natural possibilities."
