September 18, Fineko/abc.az. Local potato chip production has increased in Azerbaijan this year, while purchases from abroad have declined.
ABC.AZ informs that Russia still holds the leading position among the main suppliers during this period, with most of the imports coming from this country.
At the same time, the volume of products imported from Belarus has almost doubled. A significant increase was also recorded on imports from Georgia. On the contrary, imports from such countries as Ukraine and Latvia decreased, while imports from some European countries (for example, Poland) fell sharply. Turkmenistan, the UAE, Malaysia and Thailand began to appear on the market.
Positive dynamics was observed on domestic production. According to the State Statistics Committee, while 1,236 tons of products were registered in the first 6 months of 2024, this figure reached 1,520 tons in the same period of 2025. The growth is about 23%.
Despite the fact that Azerbaijan has the raw materials for this, the common market still depends on the external one, but prices are rising.
Over Jan-Jul 2024, Azerbaijan sold 68.78 tons (from 338,420) of potato chips to Georgia, but this year sales fell sharply to 23.7 tons (from 113,610).
