September 12, Fineko/abc.az. China’s Alibaba and Baidu have begun using chips of their own design to train artificial intelligence models, partially replacing Nvidia-made processors. According to ABC.AZ, Reuters reported this citing four informed sources.
This move marks a significant shift in China’s technology and AI landscape, where companies have largely relied on Nvidia’s powerful processors for AI development, and it is expected to further impact Nvidia’s business in China.
“Since the beginning of this year, Alibaba has been using its own chips for smaller AI models, while Baidu has been experimenting with training new versions of its Ernie AI model using the Kunlun P800 chip,” the sources said.
Alibaba and Baidu themselves did not respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.
