Car dealerships in Russia are closing due to falling demand

September 11, Fineko/abc.az. Since the beginning of the year, the number of car dealerships in Russia has decreased by an average of 9%, while in cities with a population of over one million, the decline has reached 30%.

According to ABC.AZ, citing Forbes with reference to “Yandex Maps,” the reasons were weak demand, rising prices for new cars, and expensive loans. According to “Avtostat,” in the first quarter of 2025, 154 dealership contracts were terminated, most of them with Chinese brands. In the second quarter, 378 dealership contracts were canceled.

Chinese brands lost the most dealers: Kaiyi (30), Dongfeng (24), XCITE (20), JAECOO (16), BAIC (15). According to “AutoBusinessReview,” the top five brands by the number of closed dealerships in the first half of 2025 were Li Auto (43), Bestune (38), Kaiyi (30), Dongfeng (29), and BAIC (27).
