September 11, Fineko/abc.az. American AI developer ChatGPT maker OpenAI has signed a five-year deal with Oracle Corporation to purchase computing capacity for artificial intelligence (AI) development worth $300 billion.
ABC.AZ reports, citing The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), that much of Oracle’s new revenue is expected to come from profits generated by the OpenAI contract. The deal far exceeds OpenAI’s current revenue and is considered one of the largest transactions ever in cloud computing. Operating such a data center will reportedly require 4.5 gigawatts of power, equivalent to the energy consumption of approximately four million households.
Bloomberg reported earlier that Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison became the world's richest person for the first time, surpassing entrepreneur Elon Musk, amid a surge in Oracle’s stock. The rise followed the company’s financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026, which showed a 12% revenue increase to $14.9 billion and a 359% growth in remaining performance obligations (RPO) to $455 billion. Oracle attributed these results to several multi-billion-dollar contracts for AI training in Oracle Cloud.
