Microsoft unveils MAI-1-preview — an alternative to OpenAI technologies

August 29, Fineko/abc.az. Microsoft has announced the public testing launch of its own AI model, MAI-1-preview, which could eventually enhance Copilot capabilities for users.

According to ABC.AZ, the new model is already available for evaluation on the LMArena platform and will begin to be applied in specific Copilot scenarios in the coming weeks.

The company plans to use feedback to refine the algorithm, CNBC reports. Until now, Microsoft’s core AI services — from Bing to Windows 11 — have been built mainly on OpenAI technologies, into which Microsoft has invested more than $13 billion and remains the startup’s most important strategic partner. However, as competition in the AI market intensifies, Microsoft is actively developing its own models, while OpenAI is also expanding its partnerships with other cloud providers, including Google and Oracle.
