August 26, Fineko/abc.az. Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, Alper Aktaş, announced that a satellite will soon be launched from Somali territory. According to ABC.AZ, this was reported on August 25 by Mustaqbal Media.

Speaking in Mogadishu, Ambassador Alper Aktaş stated that preparations are underway for the first launch of a Turkish satellite from Somali territory, which will allow Somalia to become a player in space technologies for the first time in its history.

The ambassador also added that an official opening ceremony of the spaceport will soon take place. In his statement, he separately emphasized that Turkey intends to begin oil production in Somali waters after completing seismic and geological exploration works. According to him, these studies indicated the presence of significant hydrocarbon reserves on the continental shelf.
