August 21, Fineko/abc.az. Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu has announced the start date for the construction of the Kars–Iğdır–Dilucu railway (bordering the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic).

The head of the ministry of the brotherly country stated that the groundbreaking ceremony for the new transport project is scheduled for August 22.

“The new railway will make a significant contribution to economic cooperation in the South Caucasus. With the opening of the Zangezur Corridor, the efficiency of freight flows across a wide geography — from Beijing to London — will further increase,” the Turkish minister emphasized.

Uraloğlu recalled that for the 224-kilometer railway project to the Nakhchivan border, the Turkish government secured €2.4 billion in external financing.

“The new line is designed to carry 5.5 million passengers and 15 million tons of cargo. Along the route, five tunnels, ten bridges, and other infrastructure will be built. All of this will also serve as a strong stimulus for the economy of Eastern Anatolia,” the minister noted.
