Cooperation on Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line discussed

August 7, Fineko/abc.az. In Baku, Rovshan Rustamov, the chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), a companyof AZCON Holdin, met with Lasha Abashidze, the general director of Georgian Railways JSC.

ABC.AZ informs, referring to ADY, that the sides discussed during the meeting the issues of cooperation on the development of railway line Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK), the importance of modernizing the Georgian section of this railway and its role in cargo transportation as one of the main segments of the Middle Corridor.

The parties also exchanged views on the matters of activating the work of joint venture BTKI Railways LLC in order to more efficiently organize cargo transportation and attract new cargo through BTK, the annual capacity of which has been increased up to 5 million tons. 

The sides discussed the current stage of implementation of the roadmap signed in June of this year to bring cooperation to a new level. It was noted that currently, Azerbaijani and Georgian specialists in the field of railways are actively and constructively exchanging the necessary information in order to coordinate and optimize joint activities. 
In addition, the progress of work on the introduction of paperless document management in cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor and the launch of cargo tracking system ‘Track & Trace’ until the end of this year was reviewed.
