Istanbul Airport sets a record for passenger traffic among European hubs

July 29, Fineko/abc.az. Istanbul Airport (IGA) has announced a new record for passenger traffic in one day among European airlines: last Sunday it served 272,132 travelers. The previous highest figure belonged to London Heathrow (268,000 people) and was recorded on June 30, 2024.

ABC.AZ informs that earlier this year, Istanbul Airport launched its third runway. This allowed the hub to expand its hourly capacity from 120 to 148 flights.

According to OAG data for July of this year, the Turkish air hub continues to be the busiest in Europe. In addition to it, the list includes the already mentioned Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport and Frankfurt Airport. Another Istanbul airport named after Sabiha Gokcen closes Top 10.
