July 17, Fineko/abc.az. U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday on network Truth Social that Coca-Cola has agreed to use cane sugar in beverages for the American market.
ABC.AZ informs that the company confirmed its interest in the initiative and stated that it would soon provide details about new products, but did not specify whether all Coca-Cola drinks in the U.S. would be converted to cane sugar. Now classic Coca-Cola contains high-fructose corn syrup, which is widely used in the U.S. due to its availability and low price.
The statement has already affected the market: shares of corn syrup producer Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. fell by 8% after the news.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture stated that in the 2025/26 season, cane sugar production will account for about 30% of the domestic market, with sugar beet and imports providing the rest. Coca-Cola plans to provide new clarifications on the topic in its earnings report on July 22.
