May 26, Fineko/abc.az. The leaders of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) intend to express deep concern about "unilateral tariff measures" at the 46th summit that opened today in Kuala Lumpur, ABC.AZ reports, referring to Kyodo News.
"Indeed, the geopolitical order is currently changing, and the global trading system is under further strain due to the recent imposition of unilateral U.S. tariffs. Protectionism is on the rise, while we are witnessing how multilateral cooperation is bursting at the seams," said Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim.
Along with expressing concern, Anwar Ibrahim also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation with friendly partners at the moment. In particular, the first-ever summit with the participation of ASEAN, the GCC (Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Persian Gulf) and the region's largest economic partner, China.
