May 5, Fineko/abc.az. In 2024, earnings from cargo transportation by sea in Azerbaijan decreased by 4% to 239 million manats.
ABC.AZ reports that revenues from external related transportation fell by 95.7%, to 238.3 million manats. During this period, for the first time, revenues from coastal communications was received in the amount of 758,000 manats.
According to the State Statistics Committee, 8.6 million tons of cargo were transported in 2024 (4.3% less versus 2023). At the same time, there was a significant increase in cargo turnover - 6.97 billion t-km, which is equivalent to an increase of 72%.
28,400 passengers were transported (19.8% more than last year). Passenger turnover increased by 117.1% up to 13 million passengers. However, earnings from passenger transportation dropped sharply, by 72.3% to 1.08 million manats. This decrease is mainly linked with the restriction of international passenger traffic.
Transit cargo declined by 6%, while export cargo by 32.4%. Instead, imported cargo increased by 15.1%, while foreign interport shipments by 12.1%. For the first time, 57,300 tons of cargo were transported by coaster.
In the first quarter of 2024, the volume of loading and unloading operations in the country's seaports exceeded 14 million tons, which means an increase of 5.1%. The largest growth was recorded in imported cargoes (18.6%) and transit cargoes (2.4%). The volume of coastal cargo reached 54,100 tons.
The volume of cargo remaining in ports increased by 41% and totaled 653,000 tons. Here, the balance of export cargo doubled up to 64,000 tons, and the balance of transit cargo increased up to 589,000 tons.
Azerbaijani–owned vessels transported 1,767.2 tons of imported cargo with an increase of 5.3%, and foreign - 284.3 tons with an increase of 32.9%.
The number of processed vessels in the ports also grew up to 4,828, which is 18.6% more.
