April 11, Fineko/abc.az. The Rasht-Astara railway can be built no earlier than in 3-4 years, ABC.AZ informs, quoting the Iranian Ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali.
"We understand that at least 3-4 more years are needed to build the [Rasht-Astara] railway," the diplomat said.
He specified that the Rasht-Astara railroad forms the western route of the North-South transport corridor. Jalali drew attention to the fact that the road part of this western route is working, it transported more than 3 million tons of cargo per year. A 160 km section remains to be completed before the railway line is finished. The Iranian ambassador assured that his country's representatives are in constant contact with their Russian counterparts on this issue. According to Jalali, while the Astara-Rasht railway line is being completed, it is possible to deliver goods to Astara by rail, and then to Rasht by motor transport.
