February 20, Fineko/abc.az. Iran will continue to invest in development of its peaceful nuclear program, despite threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, ABC.AZ reports, quoting Iranian Deputy FM Majid Takht-Ravanchi.
"Iran does not seek to obtain nuclear weapons, but intends to [continue] investing in nuclear energy for its peaceful use," the diplomat said in an interview with Iraqi television channel Al Ahad.
On February 4, Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi, after Trump signed a decree on restoring US’ maximum pressure upon Iran, said that American president's concern about Tehran obtaining nuclear weapons was groundless. According to the FM, the Islamic Republic is committed to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. In addition, there is a religious injunction by Iran's Supreme leader Ali Khamenei banning the creation of such weapons, the minister added.
