February 10, Fineko/abc.az. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the European Union (EU) could react within an hour if U.S. President Donald Trump imposes duties on goods from the European Union.

"We are ready for this," Scholz said during an election debate with Friedrich Merz, candidate for the post of Chancellor of Germany from the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union bloc.

"We can react like the EU in one hour," he emphasized.

The German Chancellor described his strategy towards Trump as "clear words and friendly conversations". He also called for realism.

"We should not deceive ourselves: what the American president says, he means. And some people here are quite frivolous and say that this will not happen," the Chancellor stressed.
