January 31, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) started rail transportation of transit cargo from the port of Zira for the first time, ABC.AZ informs with reference to ADY.

Railway line Dubendi–Zira–Gurgan–port of Zira with length of 21 km has been reconstructed, and a new 9-km section between Gurgyan and Zira has been built.

This made it possible for the first time to carry out transit rail transportation through the port of Zira.

At the first stage, transportation of about 13,000 tons of sulfur cargo, shipped from Central Asia to Europe, began. In the future, it is planned to increase deliveries up to 60,000 tons per month, as well as expand the range of cargoes, including carbamide.

"Transportation of transit cargo from the port of Zira will ensure faster movement of cargo flows through the Middle Corridor and increase operational efficiency," the company said.
