January 27, Fineko/abc.az. The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is working over a plan to transfer control of popular social network TikTok to American corporation Oracle, ABC.AZ informs with reference to the U.S. National Public Radio (NPR).
According to NPR sources, the Trump administration is developing a strategy to save TikTok, in which Oracle and a group of third-party investors will actually gain control over the operation of the application worldwide.
According to the terms of the deal, Chinese company ByteDance will retain a minority stake. At that, Oracle, which already provides the foundation of TikTok's online infrastructure, will control application's algorithms, data collection, and software updates.
On January 19, TikTok was blocked in the U.S. The service disappeared from the Apple store, and when the user tried to log into the app itself, an announcement appeared: "The law prohibiting TikTok has entered into force in the U.S."
However, 12 hours later, it started working again after Trump's promise.
Two days later, Trump signed a decree on TikTok video service, postponing the ban on the social network for 75 days. The president noted that there are "bigger problems" in the U.S. than possible Chinese surveillance of users of the service. He stressed that the signed agreement gives him the right to sell TikTok or close it.
