January 9th, Fineko/abc.az. The Armenian government has approved a draft decision on the start of the process of accession to the EU, which will now be discussed by the parliament.
ABC.AZ reports that the government meeting was broadcast in real time by local news portals.
This does not mean Armenia's membership in the EU in the truest sense of the word, since a decision on the occasion can only be made through a referendum. But we should also note that before the referendum, we must take certain actions: discuss a roadmap with the EU," Pashinyan said.
The bill, which has been submitted by several pro-Western parties and organizations, is to be discussed in the parliament at the end of this month after receiving Cabinet’s approval.
The project was presented by FM Ararat Mirzoyan. According to the government's rationale, the approval "will make Armenian citizens’ expectations that it will become a EU full member more realistic, as well as create a more working environment for further discussion."
