January 7, Fineko/abc.az. Turkey intends to launch fifth-generation cellular communications (5G) in 2026.
ABC.AZ reports, quoting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying this in a video message to the nation following a cabinet meeting chaired by him.
"We will hold a tender within the project of creation of national communications network 5G in 2025, and in 2026 we plan to receive its first signal," Erdogan said.
Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu previously announced the start of testing 5G networks in Turkey. He added that 30 organizations have received permission to use them, including at the Istanbul International Airport.
The number of mobile communication users in the republic is about 87 million. Of them, almost 81 million use the 4.5G network.
