Spain stops issuing ‘golden visas’

10:54 - 6.01.2025

January 6, Fineko/abc.az. Spain officially cancels the golden visa program from April 2025.

ABC.AZ informs that the program provided a residence permit in exchange for investments, the most popular option was to buy real estate for €500,000 or more. Investors could also obtain a residence permit by investing €1 million in shares of Spanish companies or €2 million in government bonds.

According to the new decree, already issued "golden visas" will remain valid until their expiration date. In addition, investors who applied before the new rules came into force will be able to obtain a residence permit on the same terms.

Spain is becoming another European country that has curtailed the investment residency program, due to growing concerns about its impact on the real estate market and issues of transparency of investments.
