 November 22, Fineko/abc.az. The first phase of work on the construction of a new airport in the Alat Free Economic Zone is scheduled to finish in the 2nd quarter of 2026, ABC.AZ reports, quoting Kamran Babayev, Advisor to the President of Silk Way West Airlines on environmental issues.

He added that an airstrip and operational buildings will be built as part of the first phase.

"Administrative buildings will be constructed as part of the second phase. Work on this phase is scheduled to finish in the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2029. The airport will be able to receive 21 aircrafts simultaneously. It is also possible to use railway transport for citizens to travel to the cargo terminal of the airport and back," Babayev emphasized.
