October 21, Fineko/abc.az. Representatives of the railways of Iran and Iraq, during a study trip on the Shalamche-Basra railway, held talks in Iranian free economic zone Arvand and agreed on the construction of the Shalamche border terminal on Shalamche-Basra railway.
ABC.AZ reports that according to the agreement, at the first stage, the necessary land was transferred to the Railway Company of the Islamic Republic of Iran (RAI), and it was decided that the contractor should start operating the border terminal as soon as possible.
In 2012, Iran and Iraq signed the Memorandum of Understanding on construction of Shalamche-Basra railway, which was never implemented.
Three years later, another agreement on cooperation in the construction of this railway was signed between Tehran and Baghdad, according to which Iran undertook to design and build a bridge over the Arvand River, and the Iraqi side - to build a 32-km railway from the Shalamche border to Basra railway station in Iraq.
