September 24, Fineko/abc.az. The Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Apollinaire Kyélem de Tambèla, said that the country would like to join the BRICS. The PM announced his desire to join BRICS at a meeting with the Russian ambassador to Burkina Faso Igor Martynov.
ABC.AZ reports that the PM said that his country wants to join the "fight against the dominance of the dollar and the euro" and achieve "fairer international trade".
At the end of August 2023, South Africa hosted the 15th BRICS summit, at that time the bloc included Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Following the summit, six more countries were invited to the organization - Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. All of them, except Argentina, became BRICS members in early 2024.
As a result, the BRICS united countries that account for more than a third of global GDP and 45 percent of the world's population. In early September, the media reported that Türkiye had applied to join the bloc without an official announcement. Ankara's application is expected to be considered at the summit to be held in Russia in October 2024.
