August 30, Fineko/abc.az. In July of this year, 14,000 Chinese electric vehicles were sold in the European Union, a drop of 40% from June, and 9.7% from July 2023.
ABC.AZ reports that, in particular, sales of the MG SAIC brand fell by 38%.
Since July, the European Commission has increased tariffs on electric vehicles imported from China: BYD - by 17.4%, Geely - by 20%, SAIC - by 38.1%. Fees were also increased for other Chinese manufacturers. On August 14, China filed a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization against the European Union regarding tariffs on electric vehicles.
According to the Chinese side, the measures taken do not comply with the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade of 1994, as well as the WTO provisions on subsidies and countervailing measures.
