August 28, Fineko/abc.az. The Baku Metro has seen a significant uptick in passenger numbers and revenue in the first half of 2024. According to the latest figures, the metro transported 113.2 million passengers during this period, marking a 4.1% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
ABC.AZ reports that this surge in ridership has positively impacted the metro's bottom line, with revenue from passenger transportation reaching 44.05 million manats in the first six months of 2024. This represents a notable 9% increase from the 40.43 million manats earned in the first half of 2023.
Looking ahead, the metro's revenue is expected to receive a further boost in the second half of the year, thanks to a fare increase from 40 qapiks to 50 qapiks per passenger. If ridership remains consistent with the first half of the year, this price hike could generate an additional 11.32 million manats, bringing the metro's total annual income to around 90 million manats.
The Baku Metro's workforce has also expanded over the past year, with the number of employees growing by 1.4% to 4,504 people. Moreover, the average monthly salary has risen by 12.3% to 1,270.8 manats.
