June 5, Fineko/abc.az. Currently, there are up to 2 million cars in Azerbaijan. Half of them are in the city of Baku.
ABC.AZ reports that Nargiz Gulmaliyeva, the leading adviser to the Transport Policy Department of the Ministry of Digital Development & Transport, said about this during his speech at the Baku Energy Week. She added that in 2013-2014, there were 120 cars for every 100 families in Baku.
"Currently, this figure has decreased slightly. This is linked with important policy pursued by the head of the country, Ilham Aliyev, in the field of environmental protection. In particular, in connection with international event COP29 to be held in our country this year, a range of events will be held. In connection with COP29, 160 buses manufactured by BYD are to be delivered to Azerbaijan by September 2024. It is also planned to ensure transition to the “gross contract” model in passenger transportation in Baku in 2024-2026. At that, it is expected that diesel-powered buses will be completely withdrawn from circulation and replaced by electric buses. It is planned to put 1,100 electric buses into operation in 2026," Gulmaliyeva added.
