Apple shelves idea of releasing a fully self-driving electric car

January 24, Fineko/abc.az. Apple significantly lowered its ambitions in one of its most expensive projects — the production of an electric car.

Instead of creating a fully self-driving car, the company decided to focus on a model with basic driver support functions - similar to those that Tesla has.

Simplification of the project may allow Apple, after repeated delays, to finally release an electric car.

Apple is currently working on an electric car with more limited features than previously planned.

It is planned to introduce lane centering and adaptive cruise control into the computer of the electric car. Similar features are available in the current standard version of Tesla autopilot.

Back in 2021, Apple hoped to create a completely unmanned car — without a steering wheel and pedals.

Already in 2022, Apple realized that this concept was not feasible. It was decided to release an electric car with a steering wheel and pedals by 2026, which will be able to drive autonomously only on motorways. But this goal proved to be unattainable.
