January 9, Fineko/abc.az. The new Astarachay Bridge between Iran and Azerbaijan will provide access to the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman for the CIS and Eastern European countries.
ABC.AZ reports that Deputy Minister of Roads & Urban Development of Iran Kheyrullah Khademi stated about this at a meeting in the Department of Program & Budget Planning.
He noted that 95% of the work has been completed on the 138-km Qazvin-Rasht highway:
"And construction works are ongoing on the remaining 8.2 km of the road. This road will expand trade relations between the central and southern regions of Iran and the regions of Azerbaijan and Russia."
Assessing the Qazvin-Rasht highway as an important part of the international North-South transport corridor, Khademi said that the new road and the ongoing transit cargo transportation will lead to an increase in trade turnover between Iran and its neighbors.
